Job Description Friends of the Cheat is an established watershed group in Northern West Virginia created to restore, preserve, and promote the outstanding natural qualities of the Cheat River Watershed.

Responsibilities:

We are searching for an Executive Director who will be responsible for the day to day management of the organization. The executive director manages reclamation and recreational projects, communicates with state and federal regulatory agencies, and leads the River of Promise Task Force.

The Director supervises and mentors staff and volunteers including VISTA\'s, manages budgeting and fundraising, and is responsible for all FOC communications including membership development, outreach, education and media relations. The Director oversees and contributes to the quarterly newsletter and website, writes donation appeals, and organizes yearly fundraising events including the famous Cheat Festival.

The Director works with the FOC board to develop positions on key environmental issues and assists with long-term planning and board development.

Qualifications:

The candidate should demonstrate the following skills and experience:

- Strong leadership, team building, and management skills. Previous nonprofit leadership experience is a plus;
- A background in natural resources, environmental science, watershed management, or public policy;
- A science degree or business training is desirable, but not required;
- Excellent organization skills; the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects is essential;
- Superior oral and written communication skills;
- Solid facilitation and negotiation skills - experience working and negotiating with regulatory agencies is a plus;
- Strong Fundraising and grant writing ability;
- Budgeting and financial management using computerized financial systems (QuickBooks and others);
- Solid Computer skills in Word, Excel, Power Point. GIS program skills a plus;
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule that includes some travel, evening and weekend duties.

Compensation Salary ranges from $36,000 - $40,000, commensurate with experience. Health insurance and other benefits are included.
