Chainsaws buzz and chop, Deforestation has to stop. Why cut down a living tree? Reclaimed wood is the key.
Wood You Give Me A Second Chance?
Reclaimed wood is simply wood that has been salvaged and repurposed to give it an extended or second useful life. Its sources can include wood from railroad ties, sunken logs, weathered barn siding, abandoned factories and warehouses, deserted army barracks, and trees felled by storms. Reclaimed wood products offer many environmental, structural, and aesthetic benefits.
- Reduce, recycle, reuse - Recycling and reusing old wood reduces both the number of new trees cut down and the amount of wood entering the waste stream. To be sure that your reclaimed wood was obtained in an environmentally friendly way, be sure the Forest Stewardship Council or the Rainforest Alliance's SmartWood Program has certified it. - Protects existing old growth forests - Using reclaimed wood offers the highly desirable structural benefits of old growth wood while still protecting the few existing old growth forests we have left. - Responsible use of exotic woods - Rare and protected tree woods can be found as reclaimed woods without illegally and/or unsustainably killing existing trees. - Provides a unique history - With each piece of old growth wood comes a unique history seen in its distinct colors, grains, markings, and patinas.
